I have been a francophile for as long as I can remember so to be able to live the French way of life is such a pleasure. My husband is an avid photographer, I'm a book worm, and we both like our home comforts so to be able to relax in our home from home - the 'camping' life is not for us - is very important. Having the house and the gite together has meant that we can have our family, or our friends, with us and all take advantage of the French way of life, stepping out occasionally to visit the supermarche, the markets, a restaurant, a walk on the beach and then back for lazy evenings in the garden or in front of the fire.

Why the owner chose a home in this location

It had always been my dream to buy a house in Normandy, an area in which we had so many happy family holidays, so when my husband said, during Eastenders, that he'd agreed to buy a house in France, I was for once speechless. We didn't buy that house but the thought was now firmly embedded so we set out to look for 'our' house, and quickly found it. We wanted to be in the country yet near to a town (we like our food), near to a beach and no further than 2 hours from ferry ports. We ticked all the boxes - the house is actually much nearer than 2 hours to ports - and haven't looked back. We had great fun choosing furniture, furnishings, paintings and bits and pieces for the house. We've had so many good times with family and friends and hope you will too.

Unique benefits of the property

Firstly, it doesn't take us long to get there from St Malo, Cherbourg or Caen and as we live only 20 minutes from Portsmouth, our journey couldn't be easier. We both have busy lives, busy jobs, and so for us the fact that immediately the key goes in the door we wind down is just so important. I step into the kitchen, sniff the air to take in the aroma of the kitchen with its large wooden table, familiar surroundings, and know I can begin my break. One friend who has often been with us describes the kitchen as his favourite room in the world. That might be taking it a bit far, but I know what he means; we've had so many good evenings of chat, laughter, food and wine around that table and in the house. I think it has a magic all its' own to make people feel at home and at ease.

We require a 20% deposit for bookings made before 8 weeks of travel; payment in full within 8 weeks of booking date please, together with a £100 security deposit should anything go amiss. This latter is refundable in full within 14 days of departure if all is in order. Payment includes bed linen, electricity, gas and firewood.
